What Self-Care Really Looks Like: Simple Ways to Nurture Your Mind, Body & Spirit

The vibration of joy creates powerful shifts.

How Do You Take Care of You?

Self-care looks different for everyone, especially when you approach it through a mindful lens. For me, self-care is a soothing hot bath filled with cleansing Epsom or sea salts, soft tunes vibrating at the heart chakra or higher, candlelight, and a light mist of lavender. It’s my way of resetting my energy and calming my nervous system.

I tell everyone in my house that I’m taking a bath.
It’s a sacred thing.

Boots, our sixty-pound grey-and-white doodle, usually flops onto the cool tile beside the tub. I love her quiet presence as she relaxes into the calming instrumental music right along with me.

A friend of mine defines self-care as the time she sets aside for a manicure. She has long, beautiful nails. But for me, the energy of nail salons can feel overwhelming. I’ve even been scolded by a salon owner for not coming in every two weeks.
Selfcare, should enhance the life you’re living—not add stress to it.
As the primary caregiver for my elderly father, my personal free time is precious. When I get a few hours to myself, I usually choose something that truly supports my emotional and energetic well-being—like walking with a friend, connecting through mindful movement, or playing pickleball.
It’s not that I don’t love getting my nails done on the latest trending nail colors. I do. But the upkeep stresses me out more than the appointment soothes me. Instead of feeling restored, I end up thinking about when I’ll have to book the next fill.

And that brings me to the heart of it:

Self-care should be something that genuinely brings you joy—something that calms your nervous system, nourishes your energy, and lifts your spirit. The vibration of joy creates powerful shifts. So how do you know when you might need a little extra self-love?

The signs can be subtle: irritability, exhaustion, decision fatigue, or that whisper inside that tells you you’re running on empty. Creating space for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. It’s how you recharge, restore your spirit, and return to your life with clarity and compassion.

And remember, self-care doesn’t need to be synonymous with pampering. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s boundaries. Sometimes it’s choosing what your soul has been asking for all along.
